The "Wrong Package" Text Scam
You get a text message saying a delivery driver cannot find your house. It asks you to click a link to update your address so your package does not get sent back. If you click that link, you are not helping a driver. You are letting a thief into your phone.
Why It Works So Well
Scammers know everyone orders things online constantly. They do not need to know what you bought. They just send thousands of these messages out, knowing someone in our neighborhood is waiting for a delivery right now.
The 3-Second Rule
- Look at the Link: Real delivery companies use their own clean web addresses like fedex.com or ups.com. If the link looks like a random jumble of letters, do not touch it.
- Never Pay a Fee: Real drivers will never text you demanding a fee to redeliver a box.
- Go to the Source: If you think a package is actually stuck, open your internet browser and track it directly on the real company website.
At the Buckeye Sentinel, we know that keeping your phone safe is as simple as pausing before you tap.
